Continuity planning in higher ed shares many similarities to its cousin, business continuity, in other industries. The differences must be addressed in ways that make it easy for academic and research departments to understand how to think about planning for continuity, and in a way that respects the institutional vernacular. Research and academic continuity planning are necessary to maintain the institution’s critical functions, thus continuing to meet the institution’s mission, if an adverse event occurs.
